Behind the Curtain at Bert’s
June 9th, 2018, 7:00 pm doors open, 7:30 pm dinner.
2727 Russell St, Detroit, MI 48207
Bert Dearing knows Detroit, he knows music, and he knows food. As the proud owner of Bert’s in Eastern Market, the charming Mr. Dearing welcomes the world into his venue seven nights a week. Known as Bert's Entertainment Complex, the place is more like an amusement park dedicated to Detroit's history than a restaurant and bar, and for one special night The Detroit History Club is honored to be welcomed inside. Your evening will begin at 7:30 pm with a buffet dinner of Bert’s finest: BBQ Ribs, Cajun Catfish, Fried Chicken, Fresh Collards Greens, Famous Mac and Cheese, and of course a hefty cup of Peach Cobbler to finish off your meal. (A cash bar will be available) Following dinner we’ll hear a presentation on the history of the venue from the man himself- Mr. Bert Dearing, its storied entertainers, and the African American influence on Detroit’s music- past and present. You’ll tour the building and learn why room after room had to be added on over the years. Then the party starts, the doors fly open, and the best dressed of Detroit’s music scene begin pouring into the theater. Your ticket includes the full nights worth of performances that have been rumored to last well into the witching hour. Soul, Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, and even a little rock and roll. Wear your dancing shoes because at Bert’s- they dance in the aisles! It’s sure to be a night where you’ll taste, hear, and feel Detroit history at every turn.
Tickets include dinner, entry into the show, and the history presentation. Drinks are available at a cash bar. Sharp attire is recommended as Bert’s performances draw a fashion forward crowd. NO physical ticket will be sent to you, you’ll receive a confirmation email. Check in will take place upon event arrival.
BECAUSE THE DETROIT HISTORY CLUB OPERATES AS A MEMBERS-ONLY CLUB, OUT OF PRIVATE HOMES, HIDDEN SPACES, AND SECRET LOCATIONS, YOU’LL NEED TO JOIN BEFORE BEING ABLE TO BUY TICKETS TO EVENTS. EACH PERSON ATTENDING AN EVENT MUST HAVE A MEMBERSHIP OF THEIR OWN. MEMBERSHIP CARDS MAY BE PICKED UP AT THE FIRST EVENT YOU ATTEND AS A NEW MEMBER, AND NEW CARDS ARE ISSUED AT THE FIRST EVENT YOU ATTEND EACH YEAR. PARKING IS ON-STREET AND AT YOUR OWN RISK (WE’VE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE, BUT THE LAWYER INSISTS WE HAVE THE DISCLAIMER).
Detroit History Club events are for persons twenty-one years old and up. We drink, we swear, we talk about things, and we’d love for you to join us. Whether you come as a couple, a group, or a singleton, our events are designed to encourage you to make new friends, explore ideas, and learn- all while eating, drinking, dancing, and generally behaving in a way that makes us proud to call ourselves Detroiters. We would like to remind you that this event is taking place in a private home; your respect is greatly appreciated.
