March 17th, 2018 (How better to spend Saint Patty's Day?)
7:00 pm - 10:30 pm
Bank Suey, 10345 Joseph Campau Ave, Hamtramck, MI 48212

Someone starts talking about a memory, a story, a person of inspiration. Beers get opened. An artist grabs a pen and flips open his sketch pad. People laugh, they cry, they learn. Poems are written, paintings are made, and our history comes alive for a moment. It becomes a tangible baton that is passed from person to person and in those moments Detroit shines. The Detroit History Club is proud to present "What Had Happened Was"...a night of storytelling and illustration.

Join us at Hamtramck’s Bank Suey for a spectacular night of learning and entertainment. You'll be greeted with popcorn and Faygo pop. This is a BYOB event - You are welcome to bring your own alcoholic beverages if you choose. Once the lights dim our epic lineup of Detroit noteables will take to the stage to deliver the stories that inspire, remind, and entertain them. As they speak Detroit illustrator, professor, and history buff David Chow will draw illustrations of their stories live. You'll see the stories come to life as the collaboration of visual and spoken history storytelling merge. We can promise laughs, learning, and a peek into what historians do when no one is looking. We hope you'll grab a cocktail and join us.

Because The Detroit History Club operates as a members-only club, out of private homes, hidden spaces, and secret locations, you’ll need to join before being able to buy tickets to events.  At checkout you’ll be asked if you are already a member; if not, select “New Member.” Membership to The Detroit History Club is five dollars per calendar year.  Each person attending an event must have a membership of their own.  Membership cards may be picked up at the first event you attend as a new member, and new cards are issued at the first event you attend each year.

Detroit History Club events are for persons twenty-one years old and up. We drink, we swear, we talk about things, and we’d love for you to join us. Whether you come as a couple, a group, or a singleton, our events are designed to encourage you to make new friends, explore ideas, and learn- all while eating, drinking, dancing, and generally behaving in a way that makes us proud to call ourselves Detroiters.
