Standing since 1902 on Jefferson Ave, the Palms Apartments, designed by Albert Kahn, are undergoing a profound restoration. This wonderful Detroit residence is once again becoming a “home” for Detroiters.
Before the future tenants move in, The Detroit History Club in partnership with The Albert Kahn Legacy Foundation, welcome their members for an exclusive look. Together with your guide you’ll explore the preserved craftsmanship of the 1900s and the rehabilitation possibilities of the 21st century. This 75-minute tour will take you through the property's past, present, and future, as well as discuss on of Detroit's premier architects, Albert Kahn.
We'll start off with a chat on Kahn's legacy, a history of the Palms building, and a prospectus of its future. Next, you’ll be escorted on a tour through this architectural wonder with modern flourishes and classic craftsmanship.
Please note that restoration to the building is ongoing. Some spaces may be under construction, blocked off, or not for guest access. Closed-toed, flat, good tread shoes are encouraged, as some rooms may be actively under construction during our visit.
